Homeowners have long been able to use mortgage payments to boost credit scores. Renters, around 36% of the population, need the same opportunity to build financial capital.

It's almost the 1st of the month which is a good time to remind ppl of CA's SB 1157 which requires landlords of low-income housing to offer tenants the option to report rental payments to credit bureaus. Tenants across the country can do this, CA is just the first with a law.

Beyond that is the effectiveness of sweeps themselves, which displace vulnerable residents, in the absence of more affordable housing & long-term services to combat the destabilizing effects of gentrification.

Activists and councilman's office disagree whether adequate shelter options were offered to encampment residents, which is required per Martin v. Boise. Given the difficulty in tracking unhoused citizens, I could only verify thru firsthand accounts (not filmed per request)

I'm so over the glorification of white-collar criminals in pop culture. Where's the TV show about Bronx moms shoplifting essential baby products? Maybe if we depicted petty crime in same way as privileged fraudsters, we'd have a better understanding of poverty. cc
