or back in the day when the only asian store was japanese i would buy miso paste and natto and add the natto to the soup so it would be more like doenjang. 2 packs of natto and it more resembles chunggookjang? do you have any other hacks like that

or like when i first moved to the states before kkongguksu was a viral internet thing and you couldn’t get it anywhere i would put salt and ice cubes in soy milk and add spaghetti noodles and sliced cucumber

the funniest thing about being an asian mom in manhattan is when white moms ask if you’re the nanny you can’t tell if it’s because they’re racist or it’s because you look 15 years younger than them even though you’re both the same age

i don’t think most koreans would understand why someone would think this was “wrong” like they all knew watching that it wasn’t the original i think?? but i dunno. i’m not very clear about the history of this but this type of “show” dates back hundreds of years probably?

that’s where the practice comes from and so the weekly variety shows were never seen as original more like people who traveled and brought back songs. that’s why koreans didn’t think it was weird. but obviously it gets complicated with appropriation through an american lens etc
