@timnitGebru I very much admire your work on AI ethics and fairness. I care deeply about about working to make sure biases don’t get amplified by AI and I’m sorry that the way I communicated here became the story.

I appreciate you writing that Yann. I would write a more detailed reply but I’m exhausted as many pointed have out. I’d like to start with
@mmitchell_ai's doc on apology which I hope you read: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HwAw3pZWUdzHIE9-Wku-nVDfdpgTWitN58CUtI1CyvY/edit?usp=sharing … (1/N) -
We’re often told things like “I’m sorry that’s how it made you feel.” That doesn’t really own up to the actual thing. I hope you understand *why* *how* you communicated became the story. It became the story because its a pattern of marginalization. (2/N)

@timnitGebru has infinite patience, so I hope you read her responses to you. I have significantly less patience, so I want you to know in no uncertain terms that this is a non-apology. I hope you educate yourself based on the many resources you've been given, revise and resubmit. -
lol what? she has been hostile or passive aggressive the whole time. If anyone is displaying patience, it's
@ylecun. It's honestly stunning how much patience he has considering@timnitGebru misrepresented his words and used him as a scapegoat. - Show replies

I am having a hard time putting this thread in context. What did we miss?

The mob has Yann in its target. He's digging himself into a hole by being too nice and hopeful. :D

Watching this thread featuring
@ylecun speaking in scientifically precise non-mainstream language - jumping in to suggest that turning down a discussion w/ him doesn't fix. I'd join if asked & have no horse, but if he's reaching out - why not talk? All could learn something. -
With all due respect, and it's a lot, *plenty* of folks have been engaging w/ him from the beginning. It remains unclear that he's willing to listen, educate himself, or change his opinions based on the extensive resources provided. It's simply no longer a case of "why not talk".
