My #YIMBYmoment was reading @mattyglesias’s The Rent Is Too Damn High back when I was still a homeowner. Read it and realized I had been very wrong, and that my friends moving away was linked tightly to my property value. Decided I would rather have neighbors than home equity.

Why I owned an apt in Oakland, the tenants stopped paying rent, and I had no legal recourse to get them out and stop bleeding money. That is when I realized we need reform and more housing because our rent control laws are insane.
