      How many vacant homes do we have in the state? How many are owned by foreign investors simply looking to park their money? How many formerly affordable units have been lost to AirBnB? These are all questions I wish someone at the @latimes would actually ask.

      As you're probably aware, 5% is the generally accepted figure. I haven't done original reporting on vacancy rates in a while and I trust Matt's figures/analysis.

      That type of data might help inform the conversation a/b whether this is simply a shortage issue rite? Take what they say as true: U might help answer how much supply we need to accommodate both investors/speculators & actual housing? Or you can expose the theory as a farce!
