@grow_SF it used to be front yards but they illegally converted them to private parking spaces. Very bad for water conservation.
I like (green) front yards. But making backyard cottages illegal to 'protect' private inaccessible open space is gross.

in that case some streets in Sunset are so wide that you could literally add a block with normal sized sidewalks/streets
