I'm actually quite surprised you all use SF's #NIMBY as a "standard" to criticize and predict San Jose's doings.
Different city, different mayor,
different people, different backyard

Most of the Bay Area does suck at approving permits
, the state is considering taking away local gov control from Cupertino over this and San Bruno is next in line.
San Jose is a better market though I think. Star city is building a huge campus there soon.
Statistically the entire region is massively behind on housing building. They add tens of thousands of jobs and new office buildings and almost no housing.
@yimbyaction I think shared some data before that showed 1 town in the entire Bay Area region had hit quota.
Just look at the actions in Palo Alto, the Cupertino strip mall project, and the massive project blocked in Brisbane (4,000 units!). It's a gross mischaracterization to say it's "just San Francisco."
San Francisco has the most billionaires per capita, hence...not attacking any city, and I haven’t studied this issue thoroughly to be sophisticatedly political
One of many great articles about how basically every jurisdiction sucks at allowing the building of sufficient housing. Some jurisdictions suck a little less.https://www.latimes.com/projects/la-pol-ca-housing-supply/ …
San Jose definitely sucks less than San Francisco on this issue. But neither is helped by the Peninsula and South Bay sucking a bit more.
Also, one of the most comprehensive reports on the Bay Area housing crisis and feasible political solutions is the CASA Compact, found here. Many bills we've been championing have come out of this process. https://mtc.ca.gov/our-work/plans-projects/casa-committee-house-bay-area …
