YIMBY Action

First, a discussion of process. MTC can vote to either SUPPORT, OPPOSE or RECOMMEND AMENDMENTS. When they recommend amendments, they won't support until those amendments are made. Hope is that we won't see these bills weaken further.

Discussion about the amendments to #SB50, including the addition of Jobs Rich areas and regions with greater opportunity. MTC wanted to ensure this would reduce vehicle miles travels. MTC also wanted "greater flexibility" on parking, aka wanted more parking.

"At the average cost of $3000, we are keeping families in their homes. ...it's extremely cost-effective." Oakland Mayor @LibbySchaaf talks about the importance of funding for legal aid for tenants facing eviction. Staff, "#SB18 has been gutted.. no longer has funding."

Discussion about how #SB330 has changed. The bill has been amended to allow increasing fees on housing in the future. But fees won't be able to grow in the middle of the permitting process.

San Mateo Commissioner Gina Papan on #SB50 makes the argument that if you build housing on parking lots at train stations, people won't use transit. She is the lone NO on the motion to work with the #SB50 bill author on amendments to get to support.

Now on to discussing THE ENTITY, #AB1487, which will authorize a regional body for Affordable Housing funding measures and spending. #regionalism is key to solving our Bay Area housing crisis.
