I am a supporter of YIMBY efforts to relax zoning to add more housing of all types. I even started a KC YIMBY Slack group. While, I can't speak for every "YIMBY", this completely misrepresents my position on these issues. Your thoughts?https://medium.com/@LATenantsUnion/dropping-the-hammer-on-yimbyism-97724dfdb6a9 …

This is my 1st time hearing the term "YIMBY" but a moment that stood out for me yesterday was the suggestion to subsidize more luxury housing as an answer for affordable housing issues in KCMO. That *feels* like a speculative "trickle down economics" theory. Is that YIMBY?

So that's the mischaracterization that I was referring to. The idea behind YIMBY is simply that individual residents or interest groups should not have the power to veto projects - new development, infrastructure projects, parks, etc.

II'm sure some YIMBY folks subscribe to the supply-only approach to affordable housing but that's certainly not central to the concept. Increasing supply is necessary to keep rents down, but it's not a sufficient cause for affordability for our most vunlerable.
