One more note - both of these phrases are allusions to historic Chinese sayings. The first one was sewed onto garments sent by Japan to China in the Tang dynasty, which resulted in a Chinese Buddhist monk accepting an invitation to travel across stormy seas to visit Japan.

The second phrase comes from an ancient poetry collection 诗经. It's an allusion to warriors who put aside their disputes to fight against a shared enemy. I haven't come across these stories before but I'll look into them and see if I want to translate the full text.
