Editorial Board @dissentmag. Pretty sure I started the trend of labeling the modern US Right as “revanchist.” Charming in person, but we’re not there.

About the NBA players’ action: Yesterday, I saw several conservatives express anything from genuine bafflement to sharp strategic self confidence to contempt (“virtue signaling” sneered @RichLowry) After all, what could these millionaire entertainers really *accomplish*? 1/6https://twitter.com/AndrewGreif/status/1299386147030802433 …

Conservatives don’t like or, more to the point, *understand* unions—the logic of their power, the issues that drive them, the strategic analysis they make to win concessions. So they couldn’t figure why the Bucks would wildcat strike was or the other teams join it 2/3

with the possibility of a concerted decision to end the playoffs at a cost of mega millions for both the players and owners. So here was the point and the target: the point was to use the player unique leverage to help defeat Donald Trump and other Republicans in key states. 3/4

The primary target was a typical one for a strike action—the bosses. Who, in this case, are some of the wealthiest, most powerful people in the country, but *also in their particular cities/states.* These owners, like all plutocrats, are mostly Republicans. So they had to be 4/5

pushed via a militant workplace action, to do something their players wanted them to do: set up their enormous sports arena in pretty much every major city in the country to be places where people can vote or register to vote. In short, the players forced the owners to make 5/6

it easier for tens of thousands of mostly Democratic Party supporting voters in big cities to, in fact, vote. Get it now, @RichLowry? The signal of egalitarian, anti-racist/authoritarian virtue here is to throw Republicans out of office. Nice work for some ball dribblers. End

Dude they transparently caved when they realized cancelling the playoffs would mess with their money. Taking a two day holiday etc doesn’t accomplish anything, tossing a few bucks to organizations is just window dressing.
