As a former teacher for 13 years, and co-founder of two schools I have been fighting to ensure we are taking all of the proper safety measures prior to the reopening of schools.https://gothamist.com/news/nyc-public-schools-opening-delayed-september-21 …

This is a statement I sent back in early August, calling on the City to ensure all proper safety measures are in place prior to reopening schools; http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?preview=true&m=1109457792744&ca=d99467bf-9905-491e-b9c4-fca27e171607&id=preview …pic.twitter.com/tHmZIgxEHW

Proud to have worked alongside my colleagues at the Council, @UFT, & advocates in delaying the reopening of the schools until September 21st. We now must make sure all schools especially those in underserved communities receive all of the resources they need to reopen safely.

Most US colleges & ALL big cities except NYC ditched their plans for in person class, citing that the risks are just too high. Even Yonkers announced that it is going remote in order to keep everyone safe. The whole country can't be wrong & the Mayor is the only one who is right!

Let's give Kudos to @andrewsiff4NY for asking the Mayor if he had a plan to stop asymptomatic people from spreading covid in schools before the random testing starts in October. The Mayor has no plan! The staff & kids will return to school with a heightened risk of catching it.

Where's the voice of conscience? Most colleges & all big cities except NYC changed course & are starting classes remotely, citing that the risks are too high. The idea of even one child succumbing to covid is unbearable. What's NYC going to say if a kid succumbs to it? I'm SORRY!
