Tonight says to our son, "Tell your sister: you were right." So the kid turns to his sister exclaiming, "I WAS RIGHT!" I can't believe the boy missed the reference. 🤦

Gartner: ~25% of the $40B database market is already cloud. Over time that will steer toward 100%, and I'm betting much of that will be open source databases (which is fantastic for customers and vendors alike)

We've analyzed compute used in major AI results for the past decades and identified two eras in AI: 1) Prior to 2012 - AI results closely tracked Moore's Law, w/ compute doubling every two years. 2) Post-2012 - compute has been doubling every 3.4 months

If you zoom out and squint really hard, there's no real difference between abstraction-heavy FP, and what AOP is used for in OOP. When done right, they both provide hook points for controlling behavior. Except one is using magic, and the other is just function composition.

Totally agree! Infrastructure has often been the domain of some guru who knows all the magic YAML you need to make things work. Tools like Pulumi and CDK let anyone on the team create infrastructure. That translates to a lower barrier for entry and faster velocity of building

One of my most controversial software opinions is that your sleep quality and stress level matter far, far more than the languages you use or the practices you follow. Nothing else comes close: not type systems, not TDD, not formal methods, not ANYTHING. Allow me to explain why.
