Interesting fact buried in there: Bush 41 assumed Jesse Jackson would be Dukakis' running mate.
-
I don't think that's what he meant. Rather he mentioned Jackson as the other high-profile Dem candidate.
-
Dukakis had locked up the nomination by May. Also, later in the letter Bush refers to Dukakis only.
-
Ah good catch. I didn't notice the timing and thought it was during the primary.

Do I think Bush was a great president? No. Do I think he was an honorable man, trying to do what he thought best? Yes. I miss that feeling.
-
I met him by chance once. He defied his security to walk over and talk to my then 8 yr old daughter. Even stooped to her level, eye to eye.

I
that. Decent, honorable presidents. I feel like that's something I've very much taken for granted up 'til now. -
I agree. I was not in agreement wit W but greatly admire that his daughters contribute to society. Says a lot about him.
