      1. You should know that we are 10-15 years away from Orangutans going extinct in the wild. This isn't some hyperbolic prediction...we've lost over 100,000 Orangutans in the past 18 years. Orangutans are our cousins and we're watching them disappear before our very eyes.pic.twitter.com/e9wa9E73je

      2. Orangutans reproduce every 8-10 years. No other mammal waits that long. They don't start having kids until they're 15. A mom lives with her child for 8 years. She is responsible for teaching them EVERYTHING. A loss of adult females is devastatingpic.twitter.com/xPx1K02sQl

      3. The orphanages are packed with Orangutan babies who have lost their mothers. They have to be taught everything for years by their human caregivers. Look at what we’ve done to our cousins.pic.twitter.com/56043jJWLq

If anyone wants to learn more about it, there's a whole series on it. This episode for example is all about orangutan jungle school. You'll fall in love with them. You can also donate to their website because they do great work to save these babies! https://youtu.be/QZstsSHJel8

Habitat destruction, Chinese medicine, killed defending their young, etc. There used to be a lot of people that would kill moms to take their babies as pets or to sell as pets. The pets would be abandoned as juveniles as they got big
