I was diagnosed in 2nd grade and again in my 20’s. I rely on auditory distractions while cleaning, have extreme difficulty setting appointments and have hyper focus at times to the point of exhaustion and insomnia.

I’m the most focused when the clock is running out, it’s almost a superpower, but it’s exhausting to live like this. It’s like being in fight or flight all the time. People tell me I need to “relax”. I don’t think I’ve ever fully relaxed.
-
I pace back and forth and fidget. Forced relaxation rituals raise my anxiety levels (massages are torture) I need to move. People hate shopping with me. I walk one end of the store to the next grabbing items I think of instead of searching the aisle for everything on it I need.
-
I either get EVERYTHING done or nothing.
-
This is me in a nutshell. After a day where I do everything, though, I am toast for another couple days.
-
This is even more daunting as you get older lol. It was a gift for raising five kids though.
-
I only began to appreciate ADHD after I had kids

I was diagnosed at 5 and always waited till the last minute to do my homework. Now being a 20 year old college student some of my best papers are done the night before even though the professor gave me the typical spiel about not waiting till the last minute lol if only she knew

Thank you for saying the part about women being under diagnosed because our symptoms can present themselves differently. It’s so important for parents and teachers to be able to discern the difference in the way ADHD can present itself in girls.

Thank you so much, Liz!

Yes!! This is so important. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was a senior in college because I didn’t show the “classic” signs. Since then, though, my life has improved a lot, so hopefully by getting the word out like this you can help people like me earlier

I was diagnosed with
#ADHDInattentive at 38. I always thought you need to be (visibly) hyperactive to have ADHD. Nope! - еще 1 ответ

For years I was “supposed to think” it was a Disorder I had, a flaw. It took a lot of work to change my take on it ( especially after ignoring mother fuckers who like to point fingers at others). Today, my adhd is my gift. I leaned to use it to get shit done. Fuck people.

Conventional thinking leads to a conventional life. BORING. Why be ordinary when you can be extra- ordinary. Yolo
-
People don’t seem to get that ADHD is coupled with the ability to focus intensely too, when properly engaged.

I'm a musician & laser-focus is a super-power when hired to sight-read at a last-minute gig. Preparing for a gig 4 months from now: not so much.
-
I'm an ADHD musician too and sight-reading is my jam. I'm also convinced that even when I have a year to prepare something, I have just the same amount of stuff left to do at the last minute.

-
One of the bad things: I have screwed up (mostly in rehearsals) by skipping a line when my brain skips. And counting empty measures of rest is challenging. It took me a long time to have a consistent routine for keeping count.
-
Recreationally, I'm an artist and crafter and it can take me months to start something if I'm stressed by the mountain of it, but once I start in usually don't move til my legs cramp lol
