im now going for a brief intro to R Rstudio, and the tidyverse, and then trying a buch of just in time teaching as we go. slides are meant to be homework, with flipped class [live coding and group problems] updates to come. would love guidance / thoughts

I had a good grad level stats class where we learned how to calculate the statistics by hand, then calculated the stats using R as a calculator, then calculated using functions in R. I think it worked really well for learning both the stats and how to use R.

I don’t think the cognitive load and conflicts are escapable, but can be addressed. There is a literature on students leaning stats better thru applications. Applications require some coding. Beginning students do not need very much syntax to get things done.
