The people of Italy voted against technocrats implementing austerity for the many and socialism for the very, very few. Now they have an IMF apparatchik as PM with a plan to implement more of the same. Could Italy's President have given the xenophobic populists a greater gift?

Probably it will counter blow on the next election, of course in favor of the populist. Thats some miscalculation on the part of the technocrats.

Not a gift. In a landslided landscape every step is dangerous. In Italy the whole social contract is collapsing

So what? What should you do, I'm so corious. The Presindent defended the entire italian population from a possible exit from Euro. There is no other things to say about what he did. I perfectly agree with him, you do not understand the political situation in this moment here.

So what is the point of voting in Italy?

Varou, I'm a fan of yours, but trust me, a 5star-lega government would have been a disaster for italy. Really the worst case scenario. Keeping them far from the goverment it's not a gift to them, but to us italian.

You do not need to lecture me on the dangers of the xenophobic populists. Except that preventing them to form a gvt now (even though they have a majority in Parliament), and ushering in an IMF apparatchik, guarantees their election with a larger majority soon.

Dear Yanis, Im afraid that your time as Greek Minster of Finance (and your non sense approach during your tenure) gave them a good excuse to do so.

Fight for changing Europe in Italy will be in the (hidden) name of the flat tax. This is tragic.

This technical government is born dead. It will never have a majority in Parliament. The next time we will go to vote the forces that supported Mattarella will disappear. The next elections will be the equivalent of a referendum on €.

Had Mattarella allowed Savona, it would have nonetheless been a victory (a lesser one, I do agree) for Salvini, whose real deal was the contract signed with the M5S movement.
