Is #ZeroCovid possible? Swimming against a rip tide is tough, but is worth it to get to dry land. The alternative is passively drifting out to sea.

Respectfully, it is. Sending our very best wishes to the US for the reporting of those glorious ‘doughnut days’ sometime down the track. 🍩 From Australia.

#ZeroCovid is possible, but we have to disciplined and smart. Swimming against a riptide is tough and not smart. To escape a riptide, swim parallel to shore until you get out of the riptide.https://www.artofmanliness.com/articles/how-to-escape-a-riptide/ …

Ensuring that cases fall as fast as possible to a low level, then only relaxing until they start to rise is the only sustainable approach without risking massive outbreaks. Otherwise it's like stopping fighting a wildfire away as soon as it's small, but with lots of fuel around

Drive cases down to a really low level, and then slowly lift restrictions in a controlled manner. If we do that whist simultaneously pushing ahead with the vaccination programme we should be able to avoid another surge followed by lockdown.

I love the rip tide analogy. Some countries are not organized in their efforts and swim directly against the current, prolonging the danger. The smart ones swim parallel to the shore and get to safety much faster with less overall effort.

In this case there is no other dimension, but, on the positive side, the current is slower the closer you get to shore.

Respectfully, swimming against a rip tide doesn’t get you to shore, it often ends in exhaustion and drowning. Swimming across a rip ride ensures you swiftly leave the current and are able to comfortably swim back to shore.

In this case the the only saving feature is that the current is slower the closer you get to shore, not anywhere else. That is why we get trapped in it thinking it is safe.
