How does the thalamus contribute to memory? Mediodorsal thalamus has a material-general role in familiarity; anterior thalamus has a material-general role in recollection Mediodorsal thalamus coupling w/ MTL cortex is related to familiarity confidence

A stunning tour de force anatomical and molecular study of the hippocampus reveals a much more complex anatomic/functional compartmentalization of this incredibly important brain structure. Sooo much more work remains before us!

Memory & pattern similarity for objects! Hippocampus helps protects against false memories by dissociating the neural similarity of exemplars in visual ctx. Cortical overlap and cortical-hippocampal interactions predict subsequent true and false memory.

It's been known since Ebbinghaus (1885) that cog performance varies w time-of-day, w a dip in memory retrieval in late afternoon. A new paper from Satoshi Kida's (U of Tokyo) group (w & I) examining molecular basis of this effect in mice.

Super excited about this collaboration with . The most fun I've had doing . We found the basal ganglia & thalamus contain systematic integration of functional networks that contain both shared and individual-specific features

Out in . We find that PFC regions develop largely on the basis of their affiliated network. Whereas most regions contribute to network segregation(e.g., FPN), others feature a distinctive ability to promote network integration(i.e., CO/SN).

New preprint! Network analysis in a big sample of children shows that socio-economic status impacts EVERYTHING: education, cognition, mental health, and attitude. Twittering co-authors: , , , and . Link:

Plot of a network analysis with main findings: Relation between socio-economic factors and educational, cognitive, mental health, and attitude factors. Mental health and attitude mediate cognition to impact educational outcomes.

In support of the evolutionary-developmental model and sensitized-specialization hypothesis following adversity, parentally deprived Nigerian children in our sample showed enhanced working memory ability than the non-deprived children. via

Finally out!: Space-time binding both developmentally preceded and was critical to full EM (what + where + when). And the successful association of objects to spatial locations seemed to mediate this developmental process.

How accurate is episodic memory? How accurate do people - memory scientists and the general public - *think* memory is? These are complicated questions. We tried to answer them here: 1/9
