    I'm saddened to share this: Darl Synder, the gentleman whose life intersected with mine when he sent me this letter with a flag, passed away in his sleep over the weekend. His family informed me about it. My heart goes out to them.

    2017 was an eventful year. But one memory stood out: when Darl Synder, a reader, sent me an American Flag in the mail. I was on assignment overseas when I got an email from my equipment manager asking me if I bought a television and had it sent to the office. ⬇️

    My cameo in Control Room ( doc film on Iraq 2003 coverage): I asked at presser if US had called wife/editors of their reporter killed in US air strike w/condolence/info/apology (No). Work of etc has created exceptions, but not changed rule.

    An errant U.S. drone strike killed 10 members of Emal Ahmadi's family. Emal says he hasn't received any calls from any U.S. official abt an apology or compensation. Only officials he heard from? 3 Talibans stopping by to inform him: "Hey, have you heard?"

    Famous market in ,which was named after Bush, the 43rd US president, is gone. Now,it is called the Mujahideen market. For nearly 20 years, anything the US forces in ate, drank or wore was for sale at much lower prices in Bush market. It is the end of an era.
