Choose your side! Gorgeous bone from the chest and belly or beautifully packed (by ) bones from the back? Archelon is now headless and paddle-less but still impressive!

  9. “...the oldest known Wollemi fossil is 90 million years old, but scientists think the species has existed since the Jurassic period, some 200 million years ago.” Wow!

  10. Just a few of the dedicated staff members who make the Peabody possible. Also, can’t believe that just a few days ago that was still the Great Hall Island!

  11. What led to the extinction of the dinosaurs? New research led by Peabody Museum curator Pincelli Hull shows that it was meteorite, not volcanism.

BW image shows Great Hall in 1925 before it opened. One of the crated fossils is a vertical mount of skull. Last photo shows it today, 95 yrs later, crated again and ready to be moved ahead of renovation.

Say cheese, oreodonts! Documentation of the fossil halls prior to deinstall is key not only to remember how the halls looked, but also to understand how fossils were mounted, if they need to be prepared, and how we can preserve them even longer Happy !
