100% of Black Actor/Actress I've spoken to on this topic face the same thing in film and television. Hair Stylists in our industry should have proper training, AND be able to show proof. Too often they begin to "figure it out" the second we sit in the chair.

"Black models with afro texture hair continuously face these similar unfair and disheartening circumstances. It’s 2019, it’s time to do better." Olivia Anakwe is not having it! tnvge.co/UiaRfK3
Also, shoutout to the stylists who A: Know how to hook it up! Or B: Acknowledge their limitations, bring in someone with expertise, AND show a real interest in learning by watching and asking thoughtful questions. I’ve had both. And it’s always appreciated.

Im confused if you invest time and money to put on the best show possible, would it not be in your best interest to get the best in the biz for your black models?? it just makes sense..

It's a big Deal. I worked on a black show and there wasn't a single hair or makeup poc on site.I once got to set and did my own hair for the show. This is when we need 2 start requesting poc in the contract prior to day 1.

100%. This is why I opt for weaves and wigs when filming. When I have worn my natural hair, I almost always have to style it myself. Ridiculous.
