    Check out poster 165.07 Y3 (Sun. AM). 's recordings in bat CA1 show that large environments are represented on multiple spatial scales. The model shows this encoding minimizes average and catastrophic errors (added post submission)

    I'd pledged this account is only for lab/science. But science is tied to other sociopolitical issues. O/of despair, for that infamous healing effect of social net disclosures, or in hope that if I speak up there'll be ripple,maybe a change, here me again lamenting about visa 1/12

    Just applied for the 20th visa since the start of my PhD 14 yrs ago. All for academic purposes. 20x3(d)+60 (US greencard)=120days preparing applications ~ 1/2yr (adjusted for wkends) of sabbatical somewhere nice with no mental burden. ,

    This morning at 10:30, talks about 3D grid cells in bats. Things don't generalise from rodents to bats so easily, suggesting we need to rethink if/how grid cells (either in 2/3D) support decoding of animal location. With modelling work from myself.

    Option 1 seems like an easy fix. Haven't heard good argument against it. Option 2 is bad. Defeats the purpose of presenting work at stage where community feedback helps; increases workload on authors and reviewers without much in return (people will still want peer reviewed pubs)
