From Douban: Sorry, the story you posted "I wrote my dissertation myself, and my supervisor supervised it herself." contains radical political or ideological contents, and has been removed.

Fandom girl: “We need a ‘Produce Official 101” show that selects provincial officials. Fans will keep an eye on their work progress & expenses, make sure our idols do a good job. I don’t believe our country won’t get better in that way!” Others: “Emm Isn’t this called democracy?”

Someone filmed this last night in Wuhan: ‘In the plague-ridden city, a wild boar is running madly on the motorway of the second ring road. Where is it running to, and where can it run to?’ The video is now censored on Weibo. No metaphor is allowed....

Turns out he donated another 3K of surgical masks a few days later (totalling 18K), refused to accept any compensation and ask netizens not to bother to contact him. Such a noble soul...

Every China scholars should watch this briefing: a governor who can’t get mask production figure right 3 times. Officials who can’t wear masks correctly and still applauded to themselves. It’s a better argument against meritocracy in CN politics than 100 academic papers combined.

Both from Global Times. Left: Video of Wuhan pneumonia hospital construction went viral abroad, foreign netizens so envious they switched on sour lemon mode. Right: Emergency! Pneumonia hospital construction team short of masks, gloves, raincoats, rainshoes, etc. Please help!

The fate of humanity lies in the hands of these people: left, Secretary General of Hubei Provincial Government, wears mask with nose out; right, mayor of Wuhan, wears mask inside-out. I thought such scenes only belong to Yes, Minister, but life is ironic.

Anyone who still believes in meritocracy in China should read carefully these ‘Wuhan vehicle ban’ notices, released within a few hours of each other and see for yourselves how shockingly incompetent the government of a city of over 10 million population is.

The level of censorship on Weibo has gone up significantly since yesterday evening, after a few days of relative relaxation, led by Weibo CEO’s own personal criticism of Wuhan authorities’ handling of the outbreak. We are now back to the age of ‘matryoshka dolls’.

Also troubling is the way many ‘liberals’ belittle Han & Han voters, some describe him as faeces, some say the 5 million Han voters needs some good beating 欠揍. That is NOT democratic mindset. It is North Korean mindset, and I have observed similar sentiments wrt the HK protest.

Tonight’s result is a victory for Cai, but I would hesitate to call it a victory for democracy (or Taiwan), if that implies the dog whistle that a win by anyone else is a failure for democracy (or Taiwan). If Han had won I would say the same. It would be his win and his win only.

Not to mention the sheer scale and intensity of the DPP’s online smear and disinfo campaign which has been conveniently ignored by the Western press. This is what worries me, as my friend Kiki Zhao pointed out before, the China threat narrative makes everything black and white.
