Quick reminder for those of you still running 17.04 (Zesty Zapus): it goes EOL on January 13th. We recommend doing an in-place upgrade to 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) with all the latest updates soon!

But perhaps most of all, it has this professional and extremely consistent look and feel throughout the system, which I think is extremely rare among linux distros - even among the ones that focus a lot on the design part. Hard to describe, but makes a huge difference IMO.

I find to be the only distro that is smooth enough that I actually don't want to switch to anything else. Powerful keyboard-based window management features in XFCE + true linux, cover up more than well for any lack of smoothness compared to macs etc, IMO.

I needed to re-install Windows on a machine and out of the blue the OS would not acknowledge an installable partition. I've solved countless boot sector/boot record issues over the years but this was impossible. Gave up and Installed Xubuntu flawlessly. Brilliant distro

I use on some older Dell D531s. It is pretty awesome on those old AMD procs with 2gb of ram.

Xubuntu is such an awesome distro (so easy to customize to my liking, stays out of the way, etc). Can’t wait for the next LTS to arrive! :)

Regarding the MATE applications, we're only going to be using atril, engrampa, and mate-calc. Thunar and Xfce Terminal (and everything else) are here to stay. The rest is still up for discussion, but we recommend everyone check out xfpanel-switch for various panel layouts.

The team had a really productive meeting today about 18.04! Keeping it short: our apps are going to be replaced with apps, we'll get the latest Xfce Power Manager, and we'll be taking a look at some panel defaults.
