As a kid growing up in a secular household who loved fantasy, I LITERALLY DID NOT GET THAT ASLAN WAS JESUS.

As the opposite I'm very curious what you thought of a) the order was in f events and b) what you thought after learning Aslan was an allegory. No pressure, no judgment.

      a) not sure what you mean, can you clarify? b) didn't think anything of it, actually, it was years later. I don't even think there was an a-ha! moment, just gradually became more aware of the cultural background of Christianity.

I've seen reactions to the story of Jesus that he dies for another and comes back as being hard to parse. It was baked into me early so I'm trying to imagine encountering it with fewer known references. Was it really out of place or just fantasy?

You mean the story of Jesus? Or the story of Aslan?

To me, Aslan's resurrection was just another aspect of a fantastic universe that I liked. It had not deep, archetypal pull.

Some of my favorite childhood fantasy did have that deep, Jungian Ur-myth kind of quality, but I never felt like Narnia was one of them.

I loved Narnia without knowing about the Jesus thing iirc but the resurrection made no sense to me. Like, he suddenly got resurrected due to secret magic that had never been mentioned before? And was never explained? Why? Why didn't he just tell the children that in advance?
