they were correct that that stuff does lead to increased interest in non-christian religious ideas. they were wrong (and offensive/dangerous) to conflate non-christian religion with evil or devil worship.

A more correct formulation might be: the interest in an increasing array of spiritual practices unmoored from tradition is going to have spiritually and psychologically harmful results for at least some people.

Thinking because a large part of tradition is morality and metaphysical backing which feel protective to meaning and pro-sociality.

Mostly just thinking that tradition is a filter that removes dumb and dangerous things, or fine tunes them to the point where they are useful. Don't join any cult that isn't at least a couple centuries old.
