Reading various history books Finding that the only way to get the new knowledge to stick is to simply Be Interested. If I'm not having fun while I read it the knowledge just pours off like water off a duck's back I refuse to believe there's a solution to this problem

Yeah that’s key I think. The payoff tends to be bigger when I choose books based on what you’ve described. If I have to read a book I’m not into, I’ll start skimming until I hit a part that grabs me, then I slow down for that part. It’s more efficient.
