How persistent it is, this demand that our gods be perfect. The Greeks were much more reasonable about such things.

Wait what, there are Greeks in Dune?

Not sure if real question or trolling, but the hero's name is Atreides, from Atreus.

It's not trolling. The book is full of allusions to Earth cultures and civilizations, even in the names of the characters - but it's set 20 000 years in the future, and as far as I know the first book never even referred to Earth.

Sure. But the Atreides do know their name comes from Agammemnon's father, it's part of their own family mythos. It's an allusion, but a specific and discussed-in-universe one. So their culture is related maybe not to earth, but at least to aliens with Greek mythology.

Yes, but this is a Dune quotes bot. I am wondering in what context the word "Greeks" (capitalized no less!) would appear in the Dune universe. I mean, it's fine if it's not a Dune quote or watevs. Nothing that says accounts have to be limited to what their handle states.

Looks like it's a quote from God-Emperor of Dune.

Huh. Weird.

Shows what I get for forming an impression based on the first book in a series.
