Wonkish types like to think the performance numbers will get candidates elected but it seems more likely that both sides will massage the numbers or just pick the phrasing of the numbers that best fits the candidate they already like. Total deaths vs “Deaths averted” perhaps

If Afghanistan and Iraq being the most well-documented clusterfucks in history didn't get the journalists and politicians and intelligence apparatus who supported it blackballed I don't trust anything to make the system accountable.

And I continue to resist efforts to rehabilitate George W. Bush. He was one of the worst presidents in the history of the Republic; the damage Trump has caused does not even begin to compare (give him time).
