Probably one thing lefty philosophers should be more aware of is NeoReactionaries. My guess (no more than that) is that you're fighting yesterday's war if, like, libertarian minded neoliberals are still your conception of the enemy https://www.thesociologicalreview.com/on-neoreaction/ https://conversations.e-flux.com/t/why-is-nick-land-still-embraced-by-segments-of-the-british-art-and-theory-scenes/6329 …

here I was thinking nrx *was* yesterday’s war - moldbug was writing UR from 2007 to 2014, and it subjectively felt like the peak of interest was ~2016

the emergence of post-liberal politics since 2016 (national conservatism conference, why liberalism failed, the virtue of nationalism) were all foreshadowed by neoreactionary arguments yarvin being back in the spotlight isn't a coincidence

(also I'd argue that the current reactionary moment isn't built on any particular argument but rather an attitude towards the state of the world. Even if nrx is marginal they *express* that mood clearly in ways that pundits can't so worth engaging b/c they are honest)

NRX never wanted to be a mainstream movement, they wanted to catch the ear of people with power, and it seems like they have had some success.

nrxers know that existing institutions and narratives are struggling to keep up and the replacement isn't going to be something from the 1920s-1930s. the first to write the new narrative wins.

agree with the first part but the notion that all you have to do is "write a new narrative" is absurd and speaks to the idealism (in the marxist sense) of many of the people involved material dynamics matter

yes. the narrative isn't about ignoring or supplanting material reality. it's about organizing it in a way that people can believe in and feel in. the reason existing narratives are failing is their lack of connection to the facts on the ground.

i think nrx weakness is focusing on elite capture. it's one thing to provide (what they believe is) a better view of governance. but if it's only for elites, that doesn't leave them with something they can point to to justify their rule.

i think maybe they have committed a classic historical blunder of thinking their system will be so great it will justify itself
