Like it or not there is more genuine scholarship, more true poetic spirit, more Homeric thymos among anonymous, vaguely right-wing internet posters than within academia and the institutional art world

This is an indictment of academia & the art world, not an endorsement of online racists who alternate between posting whitmanesque tweets and racial slurs, you idiots

There is in fact good work being done in academia, you just have to wade through shit to find it. The ratio of papers I've encountered that were written to pad someone's resume vs. because someone had something to say isn't worse than the internet.

I think, with the internet, it's easier to filter. You can hang out with a bunch of autodidactic, fringe intellectuals doing lots of interesting stuff... or you can watch a bunch of howler monkeys scream at each other on reddit and blucheck twitter.

this is exactly the response the tweet was designed to provoke, and yet people are assuming it was an unqualified endorsement of online racists called "jackkerouac88"

There are some really smart and interesting right wing weirdos. I don't actually interact with the WN88 troll crowd very much, so its easy for me to steelman the online right.

Similarly, I've encountered amazing insight pr0n coming from the academy, as well as the over-the-top grievance study soc-just academic complex shit with its climbers and careerists.
