I am pretty sure that letting weirdos have their say in the epistemic marketplace, and having that vindicated, is, in fact, a victory for a free society.

I do think Twitter people have won some epistemic legitimacy in the last few weeks. That that’s able to happen at all is a victory. But it seems like a minor victory over a preexisting & substantial inefficiency in the way our society allocates credit, credibility, & status!

I was being a bit flippant. It is a bad sign when fundamental institutions are wrong about everything. But this isn't even limited to a modern democratic society, it seems to just be a perennial feature of the human condition.
