what beast is this being pulled into the present from it's scattered home over the time horizon? it's a monster and it's our monster. it's us. we did this to ourselves. is that why we refuse to look it squarely in the eye? do you cover the mirrors in your home too?

we (the interconnected global civilization that has produced technological power and economic abundance) are now forced to face the fact that we are not conducting ourselves appropriately given our power and what's at stake. this is starting to really settle in right now.

before today the existential angst was limited to the usual suspects: religious fanatics, paranoiac "drop outs" and preppers, a particular strain of "activist", etc. now everyone else is figuring out that it's gonna get worse before it gets better

is this virus "the big one" that calls forth Nurgle from the Immaterium? doubtful. but now we see that it's not so unthinkable that we can ignore the risk and entrust our civic institutions to corrupt incompetent fuckwits.

is this oil shock going to set off a war over the most important strategic resource in the world? doubtful. but now we see that this is far too unstable and unsustainable. we're looking at forever-war and ecological degradation as a consequence of this oil problem we have.

is this stock market crash going to ruin the economy and trigger another great depression? doubtful. bu now we see that pumping up financial assets at the expense of hollowing out the real economy (the one that meets people's actual needs for housing, healthcare, etc.) is broken.

what's it gonna take to get through this with good outcomes on the other side? what's it gonna take to let these shocks and these fires clear space for something new that can address our problems with sobriety and competence? I think those in power need to go away forever.

I'm sorry if that statement is shocking to you but I believe it's true. I'm not advocating for violence against them because I never advocate for political violence. I just hope this moment shakes everyone up enough to try something different for once in their fucking lives.

There isn't some calamitous tipping point. Just increasing numbers of people staring at screens on psychotropic cocktails wondering what happened. I have given up on politics and am starting to think hard about Exit options. (no, I am not talking about suicide).
