It is almost impossible to be indefatigable at work, attend the gym regularly, recover properly, work on projects, track goals/measures, maintain high social engagement. and then be impulsive enough for life not to seem like a demotivating series of checkboxes.

For me as an introvert, it requires expert levels of energy management, stress management and dietary awareness. Tactical naps are more or less a must and food preparation, budgeting and isolating myself at work/setting meetings to enter flow in key periods are both crucial.

Leaving work (I do not commute) is the major hazard. I often stay a little late to unwind with email tasks, because travelling when your mind is halfway between dwelling on work and thinking towards the evening ahead is prime vice emergence territory. It is unmanaged dissonance.

Being frazzled or at least having your head full of input, it is easy to step into a shop and buy a pack of smokes, grab the nearest bag of sugar or look for where you can taste some bourbon. We all have our vices and they appear often as a result of ego depletion; a tired mind.

The best way to fight various vices, IMO, is not to engage in some data driven, ascetic self actualization that aims to make us successes according to the Darwinian metrics of sex, money and glory, but finding a community with whom to take a step back from the modern world.
