Men are assaulted by strangers more than women are. I don't get the disparity, where women are much more scared of strangers than men are. It seems like either hysteria or a stiff upper lip, depending on which gender we wanna blame here
My take on it is that people expect violence between men to be more symmetrical; this is compounded by the fact that men stand to lose much more by portraying themselves as unalloyed victims who cannot handle themselves.
