People are the greatest asset in health care (as in any industry), which is why the growing labor problem in medicine is so concerning — for doctors and patients alike. My take, for , here:

What a great letter by . This in particular: “There’s an intimate story of a girl becoming a woman. Learning that she’s good enough and deserves the world” seems a savvy echo of one of my favorite Coldplay lyrics: “When she was just a girl, she expected the world...”

So was fantastic - funny and smart, with an attention to detail that I haven’t seen in a mainstream movie in years. (Right down to the cover of “Yellow” that plays at the end)

How is it that skinned salmon and de-skinned salmon are the same thing? Haven’t been this confused since I learned that “sanction” is its own antonym

Interesting read - I’ve never cared for the term burnout and I think this gets us closer to the real issue

Agreed. What this hopefully helps to avoid is innovation for its own sake. Energy should be focused on real pain points, real needs.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that you can’t avoid risk. You might as well do something with your life that makes that risk worthwhile.

Great article thanks. I do think we would be better served by rewarding the efficiency of care (better communication, less duplication of testing, treatment in line with patient expectations and prognosis) rather than artificial "quality measures" that just measure documentation

The stats speak volumes on : ‘Desktop medicine’ is replacing F2F care& add to MD burnout. Can we really afford to continue this way w physicians retiring &leaving medicine in record numbers?

“No optional striving” is such a great self reprimand. And maybe the secret to happiness.

“Customers should not be forced to pay for something they do not want and did not order” — never would have guessed that health care and cheeseburgers present the same dilemma

Been a board cert surgeon (ENT) for 35 years. Current EMR demands are equivalent to asking me to dictate a detailed op report before starting the 3 hour case. When the MD shortage comes, maybe sense returns.

were designed for the back-end, not the front-end. Now we are paying for that choice. Are electronic medical records and demanding regulations contributing to a historic doctor shortage? reports
