@xor @nicklockwood I could still connect any analog recording device to the dongle, so what does this change with regard to DRM?

@olemoritz@xor the dongle is a stopgap to ease transition. They'll stop including it with iPhone 8/9, then eventually drop support for it. -
@nicklockwood Could be, but why would they? I don't think a significant number of people actually use the analog loophole for copying music. -
@olemoritz if they add DRM at some point it will probably break any existing lightning-analog adaptors, just as HDCP broke HDMI adaptors. -
@nicklockwood Yeah, that seems likely. Also depends on the fate of the headphone jack in other devices, I guess (PCs, Android phones).

@xor Excellent read. Would expand argument further, too:https://medium.com/@dbreunig/apple-shouldnt-kill-the-headphone-jack-5ccaaa8c53d1?source=linkShare-bd4656ebbe55-1471386566 … -

@xor I've had an iPhone since launch day, this is literally the thing that will make me switch to an Android.pic.twitter.com/HcFFpLyVPi -
@day_off_ales@xor I've been on Android since the G1 and now finally know why.

@xor how is this relevant to anyone but apple users? I could be wrong but I don't see any other manufacturers trying something so idiotic. -
@FXBOY4EVA@xor moto z droid has no port, though USB-C is a more open protocol and the included adaptor is too small to not simply be... -
@FXBOY4EVA@xor a wire sending analog audio directly through the USB port (though i have no idea of the standards involved, or honestly... -
@FXBOY4EVA@xor ...even where to buy a replacement if I lose it) -
