Imagine using a pregnancy-tracking app, and your employer having access to that all that personal info. This is a reality at Activision Blizzard https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/04/10/tracking-your-pregnancy-an-app-may-be-more-public-than-you-think/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.1f4345046aef … (via @uberlis)

The health data is relayed in a “de-identified, aggregated form". Now think of the ratio of women working in games. Now imagine how many pregnant women are working at a games company at any given moment.

"...bosses could look up aggregate data on how many workers using Ovia’s fertility, pregnancy and parenting apps had faced high-risk pregnancies or gave birth prematurely; the top medical questions they had researched; and how soon the new moms planned to return to work."

"...eventually people understood it’s all voluntary, there’s no gun to your head, and we’re going to reward you if you choose to do it. People’s sensitivity has gone from, ‘Hey, Activision Blizzard is Big Brother,’ to, ‘Hey, AB is bringing me tools that can help me out.’ ”

I'm also really suprised to see only @GIBiz has picked up on this story so far. https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-04-10-activision-blizzard-pays-employees-for-health-tracking … Especially #WomenInGames beware, don't give up your #privacy for some free perks!

"Ezzard told the Post that Activision Blizzard averages around 50 employees tracking pregnancies at any one time. Between Ovia and other incentivized health-tracking programs, Ezzard said Activision Blizzard saves about $1,200 per employee in annual medical costs."

I am flabbergasted. People are so unconcerned with their privacy - they don't even mind. They think it's the company looking out for them. And yay some free perks! Very very worrying

This is mind boggling. We tried for years to have our son, unsuccessfully until year 5. Our employer (we work together) wouldn’t need to know any of that. And then so much more is wrong with this.

Glad to hear you were blessed with a son eventually! But yeah deeply disturbing your employer might be keeping tabs on your family plans and super personal medical data like that. Can't believe people are offering up that info willingly for some company perks
