I like this system. You get a paper ballot with circles to fill in. You fill in your votes. You put your ballot into a scanner. The scanner tells you what it counted and the paper ballot drops into a secure bin under the scanner. People can always recount the paper ballots.

Why bother with the scanner bit? If you're going to hand count anyway why not do that first? Works for us in the UK

You missed an excellent opportunity to explore why democracy is garbage. As bad as our field generally is at what we do, the "field" of "everyone in the country" is much worse at choosing competent leadership.

(That is, any problems that result from computerized voting are going to be irrelevant when compared to the problems that result from the insanity of allowing the masses to vote in the first place.)
