There should be some third party tools that can make up the slack. Also I bet it's just to encourage people to only use thier notification service. Twitch did this as well and I hated it.

That would make sense if their notification service wasn't so notoriously SHIT. Seriously, people have been complaining about it for years. They know about it, so why not fix it before tying people to it.
