Durbin claims that Ginsburg and Scalia were confirmed by overwhelming majorities because the Senate was “following rules and traditions” back then. The Barrett nomination is breaking those rules, he says. Where was the overwhelming Democratic support for Gorsuch and Kavanaugh?

Gorsuch was the result of a violation of norms. Kavanaugh didn't get a full investigation.

Yep. The norms were (badly) violated by McConnell and Co. long before Trump.

Kavanaugh was an exception for obvious reasons, but I agree about Gorsuch 100%. It boggles my mind that only 3 Democratic senators voted to confirm him while 9 Republicans voted in favor of Sotomayor.

Well... Gorsuch stole Garland's seat... and Kavanaugh had a credible sexual assault claim against him... so.......

If Garland had gotten the seat in 2016, I think Gorsuch would have been accepted by most for the next seat. Then Barrett would have gotten a fair look in 2020 because the norms wouldn't have been broken in 2016. And Kavanaugh wouldn't have a seat, as it should be.
