There's a lot of nuance and detail in the Ruby Together backstory, but "why didn't anyone try talking to me" is a pretty bizarre take. It's gone from "why is this behind closed doors" to "why didn't you try talking".

I should add that the respect for people working through privately communicated concerns includes Andre, who did spend a non-trivial amount of time trying to understand and propose solutions for the problems people raised.

That's certainly a possibility. Another possibility is that initial reactions to big events like this are unpredictable and often not the person's best look. I've certainly made mistakes like that and I'm guessing that's what happened here.

There's also a possibility that in an attempt to avoid conflict or hurting the receivers feelings the message is "softened" to the point where some interpret as "optional".
