Couldn't agree more Now if only we could get dev tools to standardize on putting these files in a .config directory or similar, to reduce pollution in a project root directory. @treyhunner

Completely agree with both things, .editorconfig
#ftw but the pollution nowadays that these kind of files are causing is overwhelming. -
I wonder how hard that would be. Certainly not as hard as the XDG effort, since it's project local.
-
Maybe if it started with something relatively big and used by a significant number of people, so all of them would see how a clean workspace is better and maybe the thing would spread to others ecosystem.
@emberjs would not be a good thing for it? -
Even for Ember, we'd need buyin from npm, testem, etc.
-
For sure, and similarly for other stacks. But you have to start somewhere right? Any suitable combination of significant players could get the ball rolling. My bias is front-end-dev, but I'd be happy for it to start anywhere.

This got me curious what setup you use. I found your post from ELEVEN YEARS ago. Are you using VSCode for Ruby now?
-
Hi, I am Vinh - a front-end developer and tech enthusiast. I recently wrote a blog about my VSCode setup and clearly explain how it helps me to boost my productivity. I am happy to share it here and hope that you might find useful: https://goo.gl/ZWMVaJ

Searching VS code I see a few editorconfig plugins, but I'm guessing you're referring to this one?https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=EditorConfig.EditorConfig …
