That browsers right now are interchangeable commodities in the mobile space, so integration plays (hardware, Chinese government support, etc.) are pretty much the only thing that drive adoption.

This feels like the wrong lesson to learn. UC is popular in part because it addresses real pain points for its users (by leaning hard on server support, same reason Opera w/ server rendering was popular). Edge is losing on Windows, despite cartoonish integration plays.

I mean, if your theory were true, you’d expect significant UC Browser usage in South America. You don’t see that.

It's necessary but not sufficient. You don't win through tech alone, but saying that tech doesn't matter at all is also facile.

I don’t think tech doesn’t matter at all! I think we can win, but only if we are *really good*. Really really good.

This is why I keep harping on technical superiority (besides the fact that getting technical wins is my job). It’s because I think having the best product is the best way to win (in fact, the only way to win, for us).

FWIW in addition to being technically awesome (and you ofc know I’m a huge fan of your work!) I do think there’s also an absolutely enormous amount of fertile ground for UI innovation in browsers. The competition is basically asleep at the wheel.

David S Herm-kins @littlecalculistMy biggest Firefox wish: "project windows." Kind of lightweight profiles. Namely: * Custom label/title (for easy switching between projects) * "Put away" and restore to/from a single bookmark-like menu * All the usual features of windows like multidevice sync, drag/drop tabsShow this thread1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Another idea that I'm shocked doesn't come standard: "push to mobile" button in the main dashboard of desktop browser. I'm at http://vox.com , want to keep reading, hit "push to browser", my browser seamlessly shows me the page I was on.

I think we have what you're looking for in Firefox. It's called Send Tab and requires you have a Firefox account. Are you looking for a wireless or some other kind of solution?

I didn't have a Firefox account but it makes sense to require one and I'll try it out.
