I feel that there isn't enough attention paid to "infant and toddler mode" on smart phones. There's a lot of attention paid to "child mode" via parental controls, but that's pretty different.

Kudos where it's due: Android pinning is amazing for babies.

In terms of iOS/Android differences, the easy-to-press home button is really a disaster on iOS. I don't mind when @WyKittens goes back to the home screen to find another app, but the home button is way way too easy.

I've also been really surprised at how easily @WyKittens, at 14 months, has been able to figure out how to get to the YouTube app and his favorite video from an off screen.

The main difference between the baby mode I want and the child mode that exists is that baby mode is less about controlling screen time and age appropriateness, and more about a focused mode that avoids mistakes.

I can easily control his access at a coarse grain at this age, but at a fine grain he can do a whole lot of stuff in matter of seconds more or less by accident.

Example: in normal mode (including child mode) it's very important for 911 to be as easy as possible. In baby mode, I don't want 911 anywhere at all.

Babies don't have anything useful to do with notification shades, so I'd rather they be hidden.

@WyKittens, at least, knows how to select apps from the home screen, so I do want to let him do that (once I winnow the list down). Android's separation of home screen from whole list is great here, and I wish I could hide "all apps" from him.

I also wish I could hide Google Now in Baby Mode (rather than just making it appear and say it's disabled via parental controls).

Finally, I think that Android Family Link is a great starting point for all of these features, and if it had a Baby Mode (rather than just a parental controls child mode) I'd be in heaven.
