I started with TC39 just over a year ago. The first day that I went, I was completely terrified. I had been told that the committee was aggressive, could be hostile, and has no understanding of the needs of regular devs.

If ECMA pushed back harder than those costs, a lot of us wouldn't hesitate to consider a change of venue. Thankfully, ECMA understands this dynamic and mostly doesn't try to force us out of the working styles the members prefer.

ECMA is on the whole pretty great to work with. They just themselves have a process we must respect.

And notably, when talking about getting control of the IP, AFAIK ECMA hold the copyright of the spec. Moving venue means either making ECMA happy to have it move or starting with a blank document.
