Yeah, people are all riled up today. Weird

I know why I am riled up. But what is everyone else’s excuse?

I think someone said something about "real developers these days" and other people responded about "old timers not understanding". Something like that

I don’t like talk like that. It’s very exclusionary.

as an old timer (and Snarker In This Conversation), I don't think that distinction is helpful either. Most of us "old guard" folks don't have very different opinions on tooling than the "kids these days". It's a matter of respect for the people in our industry.

Yeaaaah... the subtweets are still turning into a gross dogpile.

Yeah. Periodically someone appears and says something insulting to web devs without a decade of experience and it triggers a lot of feels. I'm happy there's pushback and would welcome advice on how to phrase the pushback to produce less dog piling.

I’ve come to see dogpiling as the release of pent up aggression toward perceived superiors: everyone wants their turn to throw a tomato. You can’t change how pent up some folks are. This is their reaction. But. You can call fowl and keep the peace.

Personally (as someone who's been a target more than once) it's *really* obvious when someone's whole motivation is to encourage bullying and mob behavior: * 'you should all tell them *we* disagree' * 'look at that, they blocked me' * 'anyone know where they work?' etc

I've also been quote-tweeted by someone who disagreed with me, where their focus was on the topic not the person, and the difference in how much hate mail I got as a result was *stark*

I struggle with quote-tweets. Quite often I quote-tweet because the point I want to make is more general than the particular reply, but it's hard to explain without context. Is there a better tactic? Really interested.

if I'm criticizing something written by an obscure account with very little tech experience, I'll often take a screenshot and crop out the username. I want to talk about the idea, not the person.

As a person who has put her foot in her mouth before, thank you! That is very responsible.
