Challenge is surfacing value of OSS to execs so they're incentivized to invest. OSS dependencies are often taken for granted further up the management chain. Would love to see more tools/data illustrating value of OSS that devs can leverage to drive that culture shift internally

Many companies view OSS as charity to them and might abandon use of a project due to it's lack of a certain feature, instead of contributing back to the project to make it better not only for them but for everyone.

I’m inspired to make that happen in 2018. I want to pay *students* to work on OSS this year! Already laying (hopeful) groundwork to bring it to fruition. Parlay https://github.com/reggieroby/devpack … into reusable chunks for multi projects https://github.com/reggieroby/travel_hive …. Move 2 groups forward together

Know the intent of this tweet is for FTE to be compensated for OSS contributions during work hours, but the sentiment is similar. Be paid for work we do during work and let that work be done on OSS. I totally agree with that.

Yup, it seems to have been working well for Ruby for the past few years.
